Ties His Shoes, Fails

I was watching TV the other day and happen to look around at all of his shit laying around the family room when this caught my eye. Maybe I'm crazy, but what the shit is going on here? Does he really not know how to tie his own damn shoes? What kind of Gordian Knot is this? It looks like he just kept wrapping his laces around and around till they stayed. I'm only surprised by the fact that I still get surprised...
