Pops Electrical Breakers, Does Not Fix

Here is an oldie but a goodie. Never posted about this before and it seems even more funny now. I remembered it as I was walking around the house taking pics of the protein bars everywhere.

We moved into this place in September and there are MANY stories that happened that I never posted about. Mostly because I was not aware what a Hurricane this creature would turn in to, so some stories will go untold. But this one even beats the broken microwave he has yet to replace, or even THROWN AWAY, after four months now!

Soon as we moved in the Hurricane had somehow popped half of the house's electrical breakers. Actually...I wasn't even moved in yet. He did it within the week that I delayed moving in because I was lazy, so I have never known this house to have a working electrical system. Why? Because they are still popped! He never reset them (box is locked) or called the landlord! It's been half a fucking year now without power in either of the bedrooms!

No power, no problem! Here is the Hurricane's genius plan to fix the electrical situation. Not wanting to spend the 10 seconds it takes call or email the landlord to fix, he goes and buys extension cords and plugs his alarm clock in the kitchen socket. He always has this plugged in. I nearly trip over the cord every time. And one of my favorite passive aggressive moves is to unplug it for a second and plug it back in. Then later that night when I hear him clicking his alarm clock a few hundred times to set the current time, it makes me laugh. =)

From the kitchen into his bedroom. If it's just me at the house I throw the cord back into his room. If both of us are home I cut the power really quick so he has to reset his clock.

The sockets behind the TV don't work either, this is his fix. You can see the wires on the ground (under his clothes he threw on the floor) going behind the couch all the way to the front door sockets, the only working ones other than the kitchen.

To be fair, this house is old, and electrical issues are really common in old beach houses. But this is just a case of popping the breakers and not being able to reset them due to a lock on the exterior electrical box. But no worries, he has it all under control now with extension cords. Six months running.

  1. Maybe you've answered these somewhere, but how did you end up living with this guy? I'm also having difficulty understanding why you don't just move out or kick him out. Why do you continue to live with him? Have you ever tried asking him to not eat your food or clean up after himself? If the power is out in both your bedrooms, why don't YOU call the landlord to have it fixed? How are you living without power? I'm very confused. A backstory post would be very helpful.

  2. I just stumbled onto this blog today and have been reading through from the beginning (it's been a blissfully relaxing day). And I don't recall seeing any backstory either. So I echo Heather's comment above. How did you end up in this situation and why do you endure it? (Besides it providing excellent fodder for this blog....)

  3. Good point. Never really thought about giving the backstory at all, just started documenting all this. Ill post something on the side about how this came to be next week. The short story is I wanted to move down to Newport were I have quite a few friends living and found this guy on craigslist looking for someone else to rent a place. We moved in together, he seemed normal enough, just fairly dorky computer dork that made a ton of money. No clue at all he was a raging alcoholic hoarding slob. The lease ends soon so Ill be out in a few weeks anyway...

  4. I just stumbled on this blog as well and have been curious about the backstory. I thought eventually I'd be able to put all the pieces together if I keep reading. It's so horrible it's good! You're so fortunate to have an outlet.

  5. Im kind of waiting till I move out to do it. Ill be out in a few weeks and will post everything then. Along with pictures. Any more clues at this point would be too easy to figure out who he is, and dont really wanna have that conversation with him while Im still living there when he finds out about this site. Just trust me on this one, Ive seen the meds he takes.... (and so will you soon)
